Owsley County experienced a sluggish start in their Monday game against Jackson City, trailing 13-10 after the first quarter. The Tigers maintained their lead in the second quarter, but the Owls managed to tie the score at 27 just before halftime, courtesy of a Jordan McCoy 3-pointer.
Whatever Coach Tyson Gross conveyed to his team during the halftime break had a profound impact, as the Owls returned to the court with renewed vigor. Guard Daniel Caudell was particularly effective, scoring 16 points in the quarter. McCoy made two of his team-high four 3-pointers in the quarter, and the Owls outscored the Tigers 29-10 to assume control of the game. The Owls also won the final quarter 17-13, with both teams' benches finishing the game as they cruised to a 73-50 victory.
The Owls had balanced scoring, led by Keegan Herald's 19 points. Jordan McCoy scored 18 points (including four 3-pointers), Daniel Caudell contributed 17 points, Jarred Napier added 11 points (with three 3-pointers), Chase Pryse scored 4 points, Matt Wright had 2 points, and Kelton Smith also scored 2 points.
Gavin Ritchie led the Tigers with 23 points, followed by Gideon Bowling with 13 points, Emerson Bedleyon with 11 points, Bentley Tincher with 2 points, and Jamison Noble with 1 point.
The Owls travel to Oneida Baptist Tuesday for their last game before they play in the 56th district at Lee County on Feb. 24.
